Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention

Project

Innsbruck / Bolzano / Chambéry, 2004-2008

##

During my tenure at the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention, my focus was mainly on:

  • Diplomatically representing the Alpine Convention at all levels. Navigating between internal conflicts among the member states and their endeavours to control the Alpine Convention and its outputs
  • The Activity Report 2005-2006 gives an impression of the range of tasks and difficulties: Ständiges Sekretariat der Alpenkonvention: Tätigkeitsbericht 2005-2006. Document_de
  • Systematizing the internal working structure by restructuring the accounting system, building an electronic archive of the AC activities since its foundation, and establishing the basis for an Alpine Information System.
  • Integration of the ‚Alpine Network of Protected Areas‘ in the structure of the Alpine Convention. This meant redefining decision-making competencies and securing an ongoing financing of the network activities within the AC structures, which required negotiating a series of contracts with many institutions. The integration was reversed in 2014, mainly because the integration resulted in Chambéry becoming a third seat of the AC in addition to Innsbruck and Bolzano, which Italy fiercely opposed.
  • The Report on the State of the Alps No.1: Transport & Mobility. Report
