ZUSAMMENFASSUNG / Der Text diskutiert Nachhaltigkeit als „regulative Idee“, die flexibel an unterschiedliche regionale, kulturelle und zeitliche Kontexte angepasst werden muss. Standardisierte Lösungen greifen zu kurz; nötig sind Subsidiarität, flexible Mehrebenen-Verhandlungssysteme und partizipative Ansätze. Europäische Vielfalt wird dabei nicht als Hindernis, sondern als Potenzial gesehen. Nachhaltige Entwicklung erfordert sowohl defensive Maßnahmen zum Erhalt von Ressourcen als auch konstruktive Innovationen. Entscheidungsprozesse müssen transparent, kontextsensitiv und lernorientiert sein. Neue Werkzeuge wie das INSURED- bzw. SQM-Modell unterstützen diesen Ansatz, indem sie Dialog, Integration verschiedener Dimensionen und kontinuierliche Zielanpassung fördern.

ABSTRACT / The text discusses sustainability as a “regulative idea” that must be flexibly adapted to different regional, cultural, and temporal contexts. Standardised solutions fall short; subsidiarity, flexible multi-level negotiation systems, and participatory approaches are essential. European diversity is seen not as an obstacle but as a potential asset. Sustainable development requires both defensive measures to preserve resources and constructive innovations. Decision-making processes must be transparent, context-sensitive, and learning-oriented. New tools such as the INSURED and SQM models support this approach by fostering dialogue, integration of different dimensions, and continuous adjustment of objectives.
