Need and opportunities for a strong European Photovoltaic Industry – The xGWp Approach
Presentation
Brussels, 2015
The xGWp initiative proposes building a large-scale photovoltaic manufacturing plant in Europe to reduce dependence on imports, strengthen industrial competitiveness, and secure the supply chain for the continent’s energy transition. It calls for the support of European institutions to align policies, mobilise financing, and streamline permitting for rapid implementation. The project emphasises the strategic value of domestic PV production for achieving climate targets, creating skilled jobs, and fostering technological leadership. It also underlines the need for coordinated action between EU bodies, member states, and industry to integrate manufacturing growth with grid development, market design, and renewable deployment strategies.
