Prospects for Transport and Mobility in the Alps
Book Chapter
Wien, 2008
ABSTRACT / Transport has always shaped life in the Alps. The first Report on the State of the Alps under the Alpine Convention systematically applies a sustainable development perspective to this issue. The conclusions identify the societal functions of transport and formulate policy challenges. From the difficult writing process of this report, some lessons can be drawn for future editions. Based on this experience, this paper explores possible future developments. It identifies six major trends, goes into more detail concerning the challenge of climate change for Alpine transport, and finally presents three scenarios.
