Shaping the impacts of new technologies: A CALL FOR NEW EUROPEAN MOBILITY POLICIES

Report

Brussels, 2018-06

The report, commissioned by The Greens/ EFA in the European Parliament, calls for urgent new European mobility policies to address disruptive changes from electric, autonomous, and shared transport technologies, rising urbanisation, and global competition, especially from China. It warns that delaying adaptation could threaten Europe’s automotive industry, jobs, and competitiveness. Key goals are to harness environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining sector strength through space-efficient shared mobility, strong public transport frameworks, and active mobility promotion. It urges governance reforms to balance public and private roles, prevent monopolies, ensure data control, and foster innovation. Coordinated EU action, local experimentation, and a shared vision are essential to manage the transition.
