Report on the State of the Alps No. 1: Transport and Mobility
Report
Innsbruck/ Bolzano, 2007
ABSTRACT / The Report on the State of the Alps: Transport and Mobility—prepared under the Alpine Convention—provides the first comprehensive, transnational overview of transport in the Alpine region. It analyses infrastructure, freight and passenger transport, tourism mobility, and their environmental, social, and economic impacts within a framework of sustainable development. The report identifies key challenges: reducing road freight through intermodal policies, improving public transport, promoting sustainable tourism mobility, ensuring safety, and coordinating spatial planning. Emphasising cooperation among Alpine countries, it calls for integrated, multi-level strategies to balance accessibility, environmental protection, and regional development.
